CAREER BACKGROUND


Alan Sellers is an experienced C-Suite businessman, business thought leader and CEO Institute professor with a multi-dimensional background and three professional degrees.

Before founding Checkmate Protocols LLC, he was CEO of an emerging high-tech company; partner with a Forbes 400 member in a private equity firm; Executive Vice President and in the Office of The Chairman with a Forbes 400 member of a multi-billion-dollar multinational with 55,000 employees; an executive officer of the fastest growing company on the NASDAQ; on the small senior leadership team of one of America’s largest private investment firms; an attorney at an internationally known law firm; and author of THE CHECKMATE FORMULA—How Serial Entrepreneurs & CEOs Win Consistently in the “Chess Game” of Business. He has devoted his career to helping promising companies grow & working with entrepreneurs, founders and CEOs at both large and small companies.

Alan has a history with ultra-successful financier/industrialist/entrepreneurs, and with multiple founders, entrepreneurs, CEOs, scientists, engineers, visionaries and inventors. He has been involved at the highest levels with companies that are large and small, high-tech and low-tech, domestic and international, private and public.

Alan has served in numerous C-level operating roles, including Chairman, Chief Executive Officer, Chief Legal Officer, Chief Financial Officer, and Chief Administrative Officer at NYSE ($5 Billion), NASDAQ ($25 Million), and private companies of varying revenue levels from start-up to mid-size.

He has been a partner at private equity and venture capital firms, and practiced corporate law & public accounting at internationally ranked law and accounting firms. He has expertise in M&A, in deals ranging from $1 million to multi-billions, in teaming up with CEOs and C-Suite officers, and in Special Ops, including dispute resolution, governance and dealing with Capitol Hill and regulatory agencies.

 

EDUCATION


Alan holds a BS in Economics from Yale University, an MBA from The Wharton School at University of Pennsylvania, a law degree from Columbia University, and a CPA from the State of New York. He received recognitions at those universities as a Ranking Scholar, James T. Kent Scholar and Harlan Fiske Stone Scholar.

 

CEO INSTITUTE PROFESSOR & PUBLIC SPEAKING EXPERIENCE


Alan is a Professor at The Merage Institute’s Executive Leadership Program for CEOs in Orange County, California, where he teaches classes on effectiveness and leadership in such industries as medical devices, new media, energy/cleantech, cyber/homeland security, and food technology.

He has served on the Executive Committees at both the Merage School of Business and Beall Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at University of California Irvine (Advisory Boards), and is an Expert in Residence at UCI Applied Innovation, an institute for innovation and commercialization. He is a member of the California Bar.

Alan has extensive public speaking experience including the CEO Institute, Association for Corporate Growth and Chamber of Commerce, and his extracurricular passions also include the military and law enforcement. He was selected by the United States Secretary of Defense for the Pentagon’s Joint Civilian Orientation Conference (JCOC); and has been keynote speaker at notable law enforcement events such as the FBI’s multi-day West Coast Leadership Conference and the Los Angeles County Memorial Day Ceremony for Police, Sheriff and FBI.
